If you need to upgrade and are deciding between this and an intel Mac trust me, the M1 is worth it in every single aspect. This computer handles it more than well enough with absolute no slow down. However, while I am going to return it and opt for the 16gb for longevity and bigger projects/workflows, 8gb is more than enough for the general public. At my peak productivity I have had Discord voice call/video running, an IntelliJ project open, another IntelliJ project but with code with me enabled open, with about 6 tabs open and no slow down at all.
